Barry Hawkins won the Saga Insurance Masters qualifying event in Sheffield, defeating Kurt Maflin of Norway 6-4 in the final. Hawkins will now compete in the prestigious 19-man invitational tournament in January. Maflin rattled in an 110 break to level the match at 1-1 but the Kent cueman responded with processes of 41 and 55 to go 3-1 up. Maflin, who defeated legend of the sport Jimmy White in the semi final 5-4 to reach the 11-frame decider, took two of the next three frames but Hawkins took frame six on a respotted back to lead 4-3. Hawkins, 28, then shrouded the victory with breaks of 55 and 80 despite his opponent stealing the tenth frame. The full tournament begins on January 13th at Wembley. Comments (0)
